What We Check

More than a letter chart.

We measure exactly how well you see at distance and up close, and refine your prescription for glasses or contacts so everything from street signs to fine print is sharp.

We also check how your eyes work together — focusing, tracking, and depth perception — which affects reading, screen time, and everyday comfort more than most people realize.

A dilated exam lets Dr. Miglani look directly at the retina, optic nerve, and blood vessels at the back of the eye — where early signs of glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease first appear, often years before you’d notice any symptoms.

We also check eye pressure and screen for cataracts, dry eye, and other conditions that don’t always come with obvious warning signs.

Your eyes can reveal a lot about your overall health. Changes in the retina’s blood vessels can be an early sign of diabetes or high blood pressure — sometimes before your primary doctor catches it.

That’s why a comprehensive exam isn’t just about your glasses prescription. It’s a health check that happens to be done through your eyes.

Still have questions? Call us at (609) 235-9770.

How often should I get an eye exam?
Most adults and children should have a comprehensive eye exam once a year. Patients with diabetes, a family history of eye disease, or an existing eye condition may need to be seen more often.
Does dilation make my eyes blurry afterward?
Yes, dilation temporarily blurs near vision and increases light sensitivity for a few hours. We recommend bringing sunglasses, and if you're not comfortable driving afterward, arranging a ride.
At what age should my child have their first exam?
The American Optometric Association recommends a child's first comprehensive eye exam at 6 months old, again at age 3, and then before starting school — and annually after that.
Will insurance cover my exam?
Most vision and medical insurance plans cover an annual comprehensive eye exam. Our team will help verify your benefits before your visit.

Dr. Shefali Miglani is an Optometric Physician with over 20 years of private practice experience, committed to giving every patient the time and attention a real eye exam deserves.
