Double vision that started suddenly

What To Do Right Now

Before you can get here.

Do not rub the eye. If a chemical splashed into your eye, flush it with clean water for 15–20 minutes immediately, then call our office or go to the nearest emergency room right away.

For a foreign object, avoid removing anything embedded in the eye yourself — call us so Dr. Miglani can safely remove it and check for any damage to the surface of the eye.

New flashes of light, a sudden increase in floaters, or a shadow or curtain across your vision can be signs of a retinal tear or detachment — a true eye emergency that needs same-day evaluation.

Call us immediately if this happens. The sooner it’s caught, the better the outcome for your vision.

For a blow to the eye or surrounding area, avoid pressing on the eye and apply a cold compress gently to reduce swelling while you call us.

Any injury with vision changes, severe pain, or visible damage to the eye should be seen the same day — call first so we can tell you whether to come to our office or go to the ER.
